Cheong Whye Wee was the second son of Cheong
Ann Guan [钟 安 源]. Born in Malacca, he grew up in Kandang
village and later set up home there (at No. 2069 Kandang, 4th mile
Malacca/Muar trunk road). Whye Wee married Tan Leng Choo, a nyonya, and
together they had seven sons and 3 daughters. Unlike his father who ran a sundry shop, Whye
Wee was in the goods transportation business. Earlier he had worked in a rice
mill where he lost his left hand fingers in an accident. Whye Wee died in Kandang and was buried at the
8th. milestone Ayer Molek burial ground. His wife, Leng Choo, died
on the 2nd. Of December, 1940 and was similarly buried at Ayer
Molek. Tablets in their memory were first kept at
their Kandang home. It has now been moved to the new ancestral house in Batu
Berendam, Malacca. |
